Dr. Stamm is an athletic trainer, neuroscientist and concussion researcher. She recently wrote a book on how concussion and repetitive impacts can affect the brain of the developing of young children. This is obviously a big deal and it has become even more of a discussion with some of the high profile injuries that have occurred in the NFL.
In this episode we talk about what has been happening with these injuries and a lot of the details around them and what it all means. We discuss the fencing response, second impact syndrome, and the ability for patients to make informed decisions after suffering a traumatic brain injury. Each of these topics is huge and could take an entire episode but we discuss the basics of each to create a baseline for discussion going forward and also highlight the importance of being conservative when managing these injuries.
Please enjoy this conversation with Dr. Stamm.
