Ep. 155: Dr. Zachary Winkelmann-Master's Transition & Patient-Centered Care

Dr. Zachary Winkelmann is a professor and clinical education coordinator at the University of South Carolina. USC has done something interesting as the education side of athletic training transitioned to a professional master's degree. USC actually offers both (for the time being) in terms of a post-professional master's as well as a professional master's. In this episode, we talk to Dr. Winkelmann about what he has seen in the transition to the master's degree and the impact it has had on athletic training education and also athletic trainers getting into the profession so far.

We get into some of the details and nuance of how it seems to be setting up students to find jobs they want and that are setting them up for success early on in their career. We also talk about some of Dr. Winkelmann’s research on patient-centered care. He defines what that truly means and we discuss how you can balance and work together with the patient to achieve goals that still are important in their values as well as coordinate with what you believe and know as a clinician. There is some great insight shared. Check it out and we hope you enjoy it.
